Hi there. I hope your week is off to a good start. I had a whole different outfit planned for this week’s post based on what I wore this past weekend for a night out to celebrate my cousin’s birthday. My cousin, his girlfriend, Neil and I started the night off pretty low key but we did end up going to a club (the club part was a spontaneous decision and in my experience, those decisions tend to be the most fun). That decision did not disappoint this time either, we had a lot of fun! Neil and I have not been to a club in a long time and I must say, the club scene has changed since my crazy college days when people actually went out to enjoy good music from an awesome DJ and dance the night away. This time round, the DJ was good and his music awesome but it was more about how many photos one can take and post and how many fights one can get into. In my day (at the risk of sounding really old), we had more fun in a club. Anyway, I digress, as I opened my closet doors to start putting the outfit together, this yellow, handmade, chunky beauty seemed to call my name and the whole outfit theme changed.
I love handmade pieces because they have a certain uniqueness that is not found in many other pieces. My grandmother handmade this cardigan many years ago. Last year, I went through her old closet that still has lots of her clothes and pieces that she made and I tried this cardigan on and decided to bring it home with me. The wool is so thick making it so warm and perfect for the current weather in Nairobi which is calling for layering. I love the bright yellow color which reminds me of sunshine every time I wear it. I have featured it here before.
This time round, I put the cardigan with a pair of blue jeans and a tribal print top. I love the blend of color on this top that just works without it being too overwhelming. It complements the yellow of the cardigan with the bits of yellow in it. Another detail that I love is the butterfly sleeves that gives it a casual, laid back feel. It would be perfect for a dress down Friday paired with an official trouser for the office. Oh, it can also be worn off the shoulder.
I went with my “nude” heels to give the look a smart, dressed up finish. I also tried out a more relaxed feel with flats that have a print on them. For my other accessories, I put on a pair of handmade beaded earrings (that I made for this outfit) that have yellow and blue on them, a beaded statement ring, my beaded bracelets for some added color and to finish the look off, a nude lip and grey nails. This look would be perfect for a laid back dinner with friends. I love it. I hope you’ve enjoyed this style story.
